Five Simple Tips for keeping your New Year's Resolutions throughout the Year

It's getting towards the end of February and while many of us started the New Year with a ream of resolutions, as the cold starts setting in it can be easy to forget exactly why we chose to make those promises in the first place. Here are five simple tips for staying on track and keeping your goals alive throughout the year:

1. Only commit to what you can do. After a few of weeks of maintaining your resolutions, you may find its too much change to incorporate into your daily routine, too quickly. At this point, you could re-evaluate the resolutions most important to you and either leave the rest for next year, or stagger them so you add a new resolution every few months. This breaks down your goals into smaller, manageable pieces.

2. Write down your resolutions and share them with a friend. Research has shown making a commitment verbally and in writing means you are more likely to keep it. Share your resolutions with a trusted friend or family member, then make sure to write down your goals and motivations somewhere you will view them on a regular basis.

3. Give yourself a break. It's Ok to have an off day or a small treat, enjoy it and don't let it discourage you from continuing to reach your goals. Everything in moderation.

4. Remember why you started. If you're really having a tough time keeping to your goals or routine, look back at your motivations to remind yourself why this resolution is so important to you. If this doesn't help, review your goals - are you expecting to do too much too quickly? You could try introducing a new resolution a month to break them into easier chunks.

5. Start in the middle of the week. For routines where you will have a rest or cheat day incorporated, such as on a weekend, by starting closer to this day you only have to maintain a new habit for a short amount of time before getting a reward for all your hard work. This then sets you up nicely for the next week and into the future.

The Budget Face Cleasing Brush

We're all familiar with the Clarisonic - the 'original' cleansing brush with claims of a deeper cleanse, it's a beauty gadget I've had an eye on for a long, long time. But, with prices starting at a cool £99, I've been hesitant to splash the cash, just to try something new. So, the above face brush, purchased a few months back for a mere £19.99 from the budget supermarket Lidl, was a very exciting moment for me.

The brush itself is pretty impressive for the price, featuring two settings: a circular rotation for a gentle cleanse and an oscillating setting for a thorough cleanse, with two additional speed settings which can be used with either feature. It also comes with three standard brush heads, which is a pretty important feature, considering there are no additional brush heads for sale.

I must admit, I was a little sceptical but was proven pleasantly wrong! The brush does provide an exceptional clean, in fact at the first few cleanses, it managed to remove makeup even after a triple cleanse! It leaves my skin incredibly soft, but it must be noted it is possible to overdo it. The best technique I've found for my overly sensitive skin has been to use the 'gentle' rotating feature, making sure to move the brush very quickly over the face and neck - hold it in one place too long and be prepared for a red patch to rival all angry red patches. Aside from this, I must admit it was an amazing buy which has quickly become a staple in my night time routine.

Recently, I spotted another model from the same company, also available at Lidl, at an even friendlier price of £9.99. The brush appears to have the exact same features, with the same number of brush heads, but with differing softness depending on your skin type i.e. sensitive, normal and harsh bristles. Since I had previously purchased the £19.99 offering, I didn't pick this one up but might be tempted in the future if replacement brush heads don't materialise.

If you decide to give either of these products a whirl, leave me a comment below letting me know how you got on :)

Review: Essie Mint Candy Apple

Safe to say Essie's Mint Candy Apple has been the blogger Spring/Summer nail colour of choice for a few years. On a recent holiday, I decided to pick one up on a whim and see what all the fuss was about. It was kind of big moment for me as it's the first Essie polish I've ever picked up, so fingers crossed.

First, let's start with the colour: a soft mint colour, this polish is actually a little greener than I was expecting - definitely no hint of baby blue as you might expect from the bottle. It's a colour I was a little on the fence about, mostly since I found it looked very different in different lighting - I loved it during the day in bright, natural light (as seen above), but during the night time the tone appears less mint and more a strange shade of light green. Honestly, it's not so much of an issue considering the longer daylight hours in the summer, but this depends on personal preference.

I found the formula was opaque but a little streaky, so it needs at least two to three coats to get a perfect finish - definitely surprising as I'm used to being able to get a perfect polish in one coat with my less expensive drugstore brands. However, in this case I feel the importance is placed more on the shade rather than the formulation as I have yet to find a close dupe by another brand (believe me, I've tried).

All in all, definitely mixed reactions, but I would be interested in trying other Essie polishes to compare formulation.

Have you guys ever tried Essie Mint Candy Apple? What did you think of it?

IKEA Home Organisation Haul

Hi Everyone,

I promised a few posts back to update you guys on why I've been a bit absent for a few months, so here it is: I started a new job quite far from where I live, went travelling and then we moved house! One of these things on its own would have been tough, yet bearable, but all together? I'm only just finding my feet again. It happened to turn into one of the most stressful moves I've ever done, mostly because the new house needs a lot of work done to it. Most of our things are still in boxes, being moved from one room to the other as I attempt to DIY as much as possible. I'll be posting more about that in future posts. Today is something I've been meaning to share with you guys for a long time: my first haul for the new home! I'm so excited! These products are all from Ikea so also easily accessible!

One of the main things I needed to pick up was some shelving for extra storage, so I went ahead and grabbed the ones closest to the dimensions I required (I measured, re-measured and re-re-measured, I've made that mistake before!). As well as this, I picked up two sets of Skubb boxes and one larger clear plastic box. The clear plastic box was simply for extra storage (more on this later) but the Skubb boxes are amazing organisational tools to hold small bits, whilst sneakily hiding the clutter. I picked up a purple set of 6 individual boxes to add small pops of colour whilst adding some organisation, as well as a connected white Skubb drawer organiser for extra organisation inside drawers.

Finally, the ombre set of orange candles caught my attention on the way out the door. They appear to have a pumpkin on the sticker, but don't let that fool you - they smell of fields of oranges, and can actually fill the room with fragrance, not bad at all, considering a price of under £3.

Have you got any sneaky organisation tricks up your sleeve? Leave me a comment below and let me know,

Much Love,

Go to Spring Time Scent: Body Shop Moringa

There is so much to love about the Body Shop's "Moringa" range that I don't quite know where to begin. Perhaps my obsession with it is due to the breezy floral scent that accompanies the high quality products from this range. All I know is I wouldn't be without it during the spring/summer months.

This might seem like an obsessive love affair, but hear me out. So far I have tried the soap, body butter and body spray from this collection. As the name suggests, all of the products carry the same scent, but all three layer together to provide a cohesive, luxurious morning routine that starts my day in a state of relaxation. Starting in the shower, the soap is very lightly scented but provides a good lather and cleanse, without drying out the skin as most shower gels tend to. Out of the shower, the body butter carries the strongest scent, allowing the fragrance to linger on the skin throughout the day. It also has a very moisturising formula; apply just the right amount and it sinks in immediately, apply a bit too much however, and you'll usually find me doing a chicken dance around the room trying to dry it all out, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do...

The final step is a quick spritz of body spray which delivers a finishing layer of Moringa. Although not as highly scented as the body butter, this product ensures I get just a small whiff as my clothes move with me, but only lasts for a hour or two before the need for reapplication arises. If I had to pick one product from this range, it would be the body butter every single time, though an Eau de Toilette is available in this range - if you're more of a scented sprays person.

Have you tried anything from this range? I'd love to hear your opinions about your favourite morning products, leave me a comment or a link to your blog/video below,

Two Product Skincare Army for Soft, Radiant Skin

It's the summer time, and that means one thing: floral fragrances rule! I'm so glad it's this time of the year again, as my obsession with anything rose-scented is perfectly justified, even encouraged! So, what obsession have I been hiding the past few months? It's with the Aromatherapy Associates Rose Face Mask. A moisturising face mask with a clear gel-like texture, it's one of the most versatile products in my skincare army. You can apply this face mask for 10mins for a quick injection of moisture to dry, dehydrated skin, or leave it on overnight over a layer of face oil for extra dry skin.

My favourite battle maneuver is to apply a generous amount of the face mask over a thin layer of the Sanctuary Spa Therapist's Secret Facial Oil and leave overnight. Both products seem to disappear into the skin almost instantly, so there's no sticky feeling and due to the clear nature of both products, no sign of anything being applied. The Sanctuary Spa face oil is incredible at treating any active acne spots which may be running rampant, as well as reducing signs of hyper-pigmentation from acne scars, all whilst providing a gentle 'glow' to the skin. The face mask provides much-needed moisture, but also contains Aloe Vera juice which helps soothe and provide a gentle 'reset' button for the skin (I've talked about my love for this skincare ingredient here).

As a team, these products help me wage war against most skin complaints, but also act as super-secret agents for those dreaded long haul flights, which would invariably suck all moisture from my skin otherwise. A sample of the Aromatherapy Associates Rose Face Mask is available as a magazine freebie for this month, you can read more about this in my previous post
